Modelling Information Concepts PDF Print E-mail

Information Concepts capture the fundamental information elements that are used across the enterprise. This tutorial describes how to capture your Information Concepts in Essential Architecture Manager.

The Information concepts are the fundamental Information elements that are required to enable the business to run. e.g.,
  • Customer
  • Delivery Method
  • Employee
  • Order Product
  • Return
  • Warehouse
  • Work Order
  • Client
  • Client Risk
  • Dealer
  • Fund
  • Market

Creating Information Concepts

Once you have identified the information concepts that you need to capture, navigate to the Information Conceptual section of the meta model (in the Class Browser) in the Information Layer and highlight Information Concept.  Click on the Create Instance button new_instance to create a new concept. You need to give the concept a name that succinctly describes what it is, e.g. Customer or Product, and select which Domain it belongs to.  The concept may be used or viewed in many Domains, but you need to define which Domain owns the Concept. e.g., Customer is used in nearly all parts of the business, but it is usually owned by the Sales and Marketing domain.

Once you have completed these, complete as much information as you can at this time.

Remember to use the Add Instance button link_instance if you have already created the artefact and are defining a relationship to it.  Only use the Create Instance button,  new_instance, if you are adding a new artefact.
