These release notes describe the changes that have been made to Essential Architecture Manager, as a whole, in each new release.

Version 1.3.2

Release 03.07.2010

Patch update of Essential Viewer that makes improvements and bug-fixes.

Existing installations of Essential Architecture Manager can be updated by using the update installer, which brings any installation up to the latest version of Essential Viewer (and also Essential Widgets, although this remains at v2.4, unchanged since version 1.3 of Essential Architecture Manager).

Essential Viewer version 2.3 contains the following updates:

  • Improved handling of bad URL requests to the Report Service (used by the Essential Architecture Reporting Tab). Attempts to make requests to the Report Service from a web browser report the error and provide a link to the correct Essential Viewer homepage.
  • Update to all catalogue views to fix the bug in handling names with " ' " character. Thanks to pfouille for reporting this bug.
  • Update to provide improved support for Composite Application Services by fixing the following issues:
    • Application Services named with a lower-case first letter were not shown in the Application Service catalogue
    • Composite Application Services were not shown in the Application Service catalogue
    • Details of the services that are used to create a Composite Application Service are not shown in the details view for that Application Service.

Version 1.3.1

Released 31.3.2010

Update release to include latest version of the Essential Meta Model.

This updated baseline version of the Essential Meta model can be downloaded from the Downloads page.

Existing installations of Essential Architecture Manager can updated by applying the Baseline Meta Model Patch 1 that is available in the Share/Meta-Model Extensions area of the website.

New in version 1.3.1:

Update to the Essential Meta Model to fix some bugs and inconsistencies in the meta model.

  • Technology Architecture Principles now have a rationale slot and this has been removed from the Technology Architecture Objective class, making it consistent with the Principles and Objectives in the other layers.
  • Business Objective to Business Capability relationship added to the Business Objective and Business Capability classes. This relationship enables the modeller to capture the objectives that are supported by a capability and vice versa.
  • Relationship between Business Processes (and Business Activities) and Business Capabilities changed from single to multiple cardinality. This enables a process (and/or an activity) to support more than one capability.
  • Update to define relationship between Information View Attributes and Information Representation Attributes has been included.

The update for ECP-3 has been added to the baseline meta model, which enables a reference to external documentation to be added to any instance of any class in the meta model.

Version 1.3

Released 26.11.2009

Full release providing new capabilities in the Essential Viewer and Essential Widgets.

Existing installations of Essential Architecture Manager can be updated using the update installer, which brings any installation up to the latest versions of Essential Viewer and Essential Widgets.

New in version 1.3:

  • With version 2.2, Essential Viewer has been improved to receive snapshots of graphical information captured in the modelling environment. Core definition reports, such as Business Process Details, Application Module Summary and Technology Product Details have been updated to include relevant diagrams describing their 'architecture'. These reports have also been re-implemented to use HTML <div> constructs rather than tables to lay out the report content. This improves maintainabilty, re-usability and makes them easier to use as templates for custom reports. The graphical architecture diagram rendering is provided as an easily re-usable XSL template.
  • Version 2.4 of the Essential Widgets delivers the capability to transmit graphical snapshots of all the information defined using the graphical forms in Protege to the Essential Viewer. When operating in multi-user mode, the graphical snapshots are laid out automatically as the Protege GraphWidget does not store the layout information when running in multi-user mode. An option panel is provided in multi-user mode enabling the user to choose the automatic layout approach that is applied to each graphical model before the snapshot is taken and sent to Essential Viewer.

Version 1.2

Released: 11.11.2009

Update release that includes improvements to both Essential Widgets and Essential Viewer.

  • Essential Widgets version 2.3 updated such that it compresses repository snapshot XML before sending it to Essential Viewer. This update reduces network load and transfer time as well as putting off the need to remove the Post size limit on Tomcat until repositories exceed 50MB uncompressed XML. This update depends on version 2.1 of Essential Viewer to receive a compressed repository.
  • Essential Viewer version 2.1 updated such that it can receive compressed repository snapshots from Essential Widgets v2.3 and also un-compressed repository snapshots from earlier Essential Widgets (v2.2 and below) to provide backwards compatibility.
  • Also includes the contribution from Mathwizard to pass additional parameters to the Essential Viewer reporting servlet to receive reports as download-able documents (e.g. CSV file as Excel file) directly from Essential Viewer.
