Installing Essential Viewer Patch Update 1 PDF

This patch update for Essential Viewer fixes some issues introduced with the Strategy Management Pack and addresses other issues that have been identified. This article describes how to install Patch Update 1 for Essential Viewer.

 

How to install this patch update

Installing this patch update is simple using an installer that guides you through the process.
If you have not already, download the essentialViewerPatch1.jar installer.

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, your browser may change the name of the installer to 'essentialViewerPatch1.zip'. If so, please rename it to 'essentialViewerPatch1.jar' once you have downloaded it.

Essential Viewer Patch Update Installer fileTo apply the update:

  • Make a backup of your Essential Viewer folder in your web application server (e.g. Tomcat) to ensure that any customisation that you might have made to your Views is not lost.
  • Run the installer, double click on the essentialViewerPatch1.jar file and follow the on-screen instructions.

When the installer reaches Step 5 (Essential Viewer Patch Update Target Path), you will be asked to select the Essential Viewer installation to which you wish to apply the update.

Use the 'Browse…' button to navigate to your Java Application Server's web applications directory and select the relevant Essential Viewer instance. e.g. in Apache Tomcat, the installation path could be: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\essential_viewer

Note that you must select the 'root' directory of your chosen Essential Viewer installation.

A summary log of the install and an un-installer are saved in a folder called 'Installs' in your chosen Essential Viewer installation.

When the installer has completed, if you have made any customisations, e.g. replaced the 'titleLogo.jpg' with your own logo, copy those specific files from your backup into the relevant folder of your essential_viewer folder.

Do not replace any of the files included in this pack! If you have customised any of these updated files, you will need to re-apply your customisations to the relevant filesSimply re-run the installer to apply the update to other Essential Viewer environments that you may have.



Alternatively, if you have downloaded the manually-installed update (essential_viewer_patch_update.zip), proceed as follows:

Installing this update manually

Installing this patch pack is simple by copying these updated files to your Essential Viewer installation. You can find this in your Web Application Server applications folder. e.g. on Apache Tomact:

<tomcat_folder>/webapps/essential_viewer


If asked whether you want to update or replace any existing files, select "Yes" or "OK".

  • 1. Make a backup of your Essential Viewer folder in your web application server (e.g. Tomcat) to ensure that any customisation that you might have made to your Views is not lost.
  • 2. Unpack the ZIP archive
  • 3. Copy the contents of the application folder to your essential_viewer/application folder
  • 4. Copy the contents of the business folder to your essential_viewer/business folder
  • 5. Copy the contents of the common folder to your essential_viewer/common folder
  • 6. Copy the contents of the css folder to your essential_viewer/css folder
  • 7. Copy the contents of the images folder to your essential_viewer/images folder
  • 8. Copy the contents of the technology folder to your essential_viewer/technology folder


If you have made any customisations, e.g. replaced the 'titleLogo.jpg' with your own logo, copy those specific files from your backup into the relevant folder of your essential_viewer folder.

Do not replace any of the files included in this pack! If you have customised any of these updated files, you will need to re-apply your customisations to the relevant files.
