Migrating from Stand Alone to Multi-User Mode PDF Print E-mail
By default, the Stand Alone installation uses a file-based project for managing the Essential Architecture Manager repository. This makes the migration from a stand alone installation to a multi-user, server-based installation very easy. This article describes how to do the migration. Migrate to Multi User installation

Preparation

Before starting the migration, make a backup of your Essential Architecture Manager repository by saving a copy of the .pprj, .pins, .pont files, e.g. the default names are:

  • essential_baseline_v1.pprj
  • essential_baseline_v1.pins
  • essential_baseline_v1.pont

Install and configure Essential Architecture Manager Server

If you have not yet installed the Essential Architecture Manager server, please do so by following the Multi-User Installation guide.

Do not start the Protege Essential Architecture Manager server until the following steps have been completed.

Migration process

The steps in the migration process are as follows:

Copy Repository to Server Host

Copy the PINS, PONT and PPRJ files of your Stand Alone Essential Architecture Manager repository to a suitable location on the server host, e.g.
/EssentialAM/Repository/

Convert Project to Protege Database

As this will become a Multi User repository, it is recommended that it is stored in a database, using the Protege Database format. Follow the steps detailed in Convert Repository Project to Database.
The PPRJ file from your Stand Alone repository will continue to be used by the Protege server.

Define the Essential Architecture Manager Project to the Protege Server

To have the Protege Server host your Essential Architecture Manager repository, you must define the project for the repository to the server, via its 'metaproject'. Follow the steps in Configuring the Protege metaproject.
Finished. By completed these steps, your Essential Architecture Manager repository has been migrated to Multi User mode. See the Getting Started Tutorial about Accessing Multi-User repositories for more information about how to start using your newly migrated project.
